St Helens Church war memorial © L Farrelly, 2014This war memorial consists of a Celtic style cross surmounting a four sided base with incised lead lettering all constructed of rough granite. The memorial is located in St Helen’s Churchyard, Cliff, Rochester and is dedicated to the men of the Parish who died whilst serving during World War I and World War II.

In 2013 War Memorials Trust offered a grant of £200 towards conservation of the war memorial. This included cleaning using water, non-metallic bristle brushes and a pH neutral soap . The lettering was then re-painted using a black enamel paint and finally SmartWater solution was applied to the lead lettering. SmartWater solution is offered free of charge to the custodians of war memorials with metal St Helens Church war memorial © L Bickerton, 2012elements as part of a project called InMemoriam2014.
