Gwinear war memorial lych gate before work © Gwinear P. C. C.The war memorial lychgate has a wooden top section which sits on granite block walls. A cross sits atop the gate. Inside the gate there are inscribed tablets with black painted lead lettering. The memorial was listed Grade II in 1988.

In 2007 a conservation project on the wooden section of the memorial took place. Repairs were made to the lychgate and the wood was treated with linseed oil. War Memorials Trust contributed £110.

The memorial was funded by public donations. It was erected in 1920 and dedicated by the Bishop of Truro on the 21st November that year.  A report on the dedication can be found in the local paper alongside a story on the dedication of the Tregoney memorial. The article reveals how the rededication ceremony took place on a Sunday, starting with a procession from the Gwinear schoolroom to the Parish Church of St Gwinear. The marchers included ex-Servicemen, Girl Guides, clergy, parish choirs, the committee responsible for the erection of the memorial and the general pubic. The party constituted an estimated 1,000 people.

A service conducted by Canon A. J. Perry took place at the church. Following this Lieutenant-Cololnel J. Ellis moved to the lychgate, unlocked it and read the inscription and names. The Bishop of Truro and the Wesleyan Reverend G. W. Demaine gave addresses. The dedication finished with the Last Post being sounded.
