Coggeshall war memorial © Coggeshall Parish Council, 2011Coggeshall war memorial is in the recreation ground which is itself also a war memorial. The sculpture and recreation ground were conceived together as the memorial for the area. The memorial is a bronze sculpture of a winged victory atop an orb holding aloft a wreath and trumpet. The sculpture is placed on a Cornish granite column supported by a pedestal upon which are names and an inscription. The whole is surrounded by railings. The memorial is located within a conservation area.

In 2009, the Small Grants Scheme made an offer of £378 to support works to the memorial. These included cleaning the masonry with water and non-metallic bristle brushes, to add the name of ‘John R Hedley. BDR’ in lead lettering in a style to match the existing and raking out by hand defective joints and re-pointing them with lime mortar mix with colour and finish to match the original.

The memorial was dedicated in 1920 and funded by public subscription.
