2014-18 UK: FWWMP
During the centenary of World War I the First World War Memorials Programme (FWWMP) was a UK government supported initiative funded via the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. It covered a wide range of war memorial activity with War Memorials Trust focussed on delivering the grant element.
The First World War Memorials Programme
- made £2 million available in one-off additional funding for war memorial repair and conservation projects across the UK through the centenary of World War I. This was all offered to projects
- facilitated repair and conservation works through its grants and acted as a catalyst for action. It followed the repair and conservation principles supported by the national heritage bodies in each part of the UK
- promoted current best conservation practice. This was the key principle at the heart of the scheme to ensure no works damaged memorials and ensured they were being maintained for future generations
- was open to war memorials of any type with a First World War connection
- prioritised funding based on the need for works and their urgency
- was managed by War Memorials Trust via pre-existing grant schemes
